This morning, many of the world’s leading data research institutions released their reports on the global/Chinese smartphone market for 2021.According to relevant information and data, they are basically the same in general, with only some manufacturers’ market share, ranking and other differences.According to Canalys, the global smartphone market shipped 363 million units in the fourth quarter of 2021, up 1% year on year. For the whole of 2021, 1.35 billion smartphones were shipped, up 7% from a year earlier and very close to the 1.37 billion smartphones shipped in 2019.In terms of global handset makers, Samsung remained the world’s no. 1, shipping 274.5 million units for a 20 percent market share, up 7 percent from a year earlier. It was followed by Apple, which shipped 230.1 million units and had a 17 percent market share, up 11 percent from a year earlier. It should be noted that the bulk of Samsung’s shipments are low-end models such as A series, while Apple’s are all iPhone 11, iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series. Therefore, Apple is far ahead of Samsung in the high-end flagship market. In third place was Xiaomi, which shipped 191.2 million units, with a market share of 14 percent, up 28 percent year-on-year.OPPO ranked fourth with 145.1 million units shipped, with a market share of 11 percent, up 22 percent year on year.Vivo came in fifth with 129.9 million units shipped and a 10 percent market share, up 15 percent year on year.As for other mobile brands, the total shipments were 379.4 million units, with a market share of 28 percent, down 10 percent year on year. This shows that among the top five smartphone vendors, they are all growing.Among them, Xiaomi has the highest growth rate, Samsung is the slowest, Apple is relatively mediocre, or quite surprising.Taken together, the overall growth rate of the global smartphone market over the past year is not bad, given that various industries have been affected to varying degrees by the pandemic.Meanwhile, compared with 2020, the rankings of major manufacturers are basically unchanged. However, Xiaomi is expected to overtake Apple in the second place in the world in the first quarter of 2022.
